What changes an Ideal repair bill
- Brand tier — High-volume mid-market gas boiler priced in EUR right at the Baxi baseline by the same Dublin merchant: PCB Classic FF & NF (173799) EUR 259.00 and Mini S24 ignition PCB (172548) EUR 266.00 against the EUR 270.00 Baxi board, fans EUR 219.00 (Classic FF250/FF350) and EUR 245.00 (Classic HE 18), Mini pump unit EUR 225.00, air pressure switches EUR 104.00-110.00 — mainstream on every like-for-like line, hence 1.0
- Parts vs labour — the brand and tier shift the parts price; labour tracks your area's wage index, not the brand.
- The specific fault — a sensor, seal, or valve is far cheaper than a compressor, motor, or control board.
- DIY vs professional — Some Ideal faults (filters, seals, hoses) are DIY-feasible for confident owners; sealed-system and control-board work is a professional job.

Common Ideal problems
Ideal boilers most often present with low system pressure, ignition lockout, and no-hot-water faults traced to the diverter valve or plate heat exchanger on combi models. Condensate-trap blockage and frozen external condensate runs are a recurring winter cause of lockout across the range, as with all UK condensing boilers. Pump and fan faults appear on higher-hours units and are routine replaceable items.
Is Ideal expensive to repair?
Ideal Heating is a long-established UK manufacturer (Hull) with a large mainstream installed base, spanning entry-level through higher-warranty ranges; it has been owned by France's Groupe Atlantic since 2015. Its faults track the general UK condensing-boiler class rather than a distinctive brand defect. It also markets an air-source heat pump range and matching controls. Spares are widely stocked by UK plumbing and heating merchants and through Ideal's own parts channel, so common repairs rarely stall on availability. Pattern equivalents exist for generic parts such as pumps and pressure sensors. Control PCBs and gas valves are typically genuine-only.
