What changes a Vaillant repair bill
- Brand tier — Vaillant, alongside Buderus, is one of the most widely installed boiler brands in Austria and forms the price reference for this guide. At an Austrian spare-parts retailer specialising in Vaillant, the central control components -- circuit board, electronic controller and gas burner control unit -- cost between EUR 138.60 and EUR 215.46 including VAT. Every other brand in this list is measured against that level.
- Parts vs labour — the brand and tier shift the parts price; labour tracks your area's wage index, not the brand.
- The specific fault — a sensor, seal, or valve is far cheaper than a compressor, motor, or control board.
- DIY vs professional — Some Vaillant faults (filters, seals, hoses) are DIY-feasible for confident owners; sealed-system and control-board work is a professional job.

Common Vaillant problems
Vaillant boilers most commonly present with pressure loss, ignition lockout, no hot water from the plate heat exchanger, and diverter-valve faults that leave heating working while hot water fails. Fault codes (the F-series) usually point at the flow/return sensors, the flue gas sensor, or an air/condensate blockage rather than at the main heat exchanger. Kettling and noise complaints in hard-water areas trace to scale in the primary or plate heat exchanger.
Is Vaillant expensive to repair?
Vaillant is a premium German brand (the family-owned Vaillant Group, Remscheid) widely used across the UK and Ireland, generally regarded as well engineered with low reported warranty-claim rates. Its repair profile is the standard wall-hung condensing-boiler one, with electronics and sensors more often implicated than structural components. It also sells air-source heat pumps and its own control range. Spares are well supported through Vaillant's own network and through UK/IE independent heating merchants, and most common parts are next-day items. Genuine parts are preferred by installers for warranty reasons, and pattern parts exist for some generic components such as pumps and pressure sensors. PCBs and gas valves are genuine-only in practice.
