How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Value brands — Kalley, Midea, Hisense and TCL — carry the cheapest, most widely stocked parts; Haceb, Challenger, LG, Samsung and York form the mainstream core of the Colombian market; premium makers — Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Bosch — use pricier components, almost always imported and sold through the manufacturer's official channel. Descaling the heating cell and the exchanger
Pro recommended$160.000–$330.000 COP
The crackling or boiling sound that in Europe is associated with a boiler is heard here in the water heater: it is scale stuck to the exchanger, which makes the water boil at isolated points and knock against the plate. In the country's hard-water areas it is a frequent service and worth attending to, because the scale also overheats the material. The work is the same as the cell clean but longer, with a descaling product and a rinse: SomosTecnicos publishes $120,000 to $200,000 for that clean in Cali as labour, with spares separate, and the total is built on that band plus consumables and extra time. It requires a technician, both for stripping down a gas appliance and for handling the descaler.

Changing the sacrificial anode on storage units
Pro recommended$100.000–$280.000 COP
On storage water heaters, scaling and corrosion are fought with the sacrificial anode, a rod that is consumed so that the tank is not. SomosTecnicos publishes $40,000 to $80,000 in Cali for the labour to replace it once it is spent and explains that doing so extends the life of the tank; the spare is separate and depends on the brand, hence the total above. It is one of the most cost-effective jobs in Colombian hot-water maintenance and one of the least requested, because users do not know it exists. The technician does it: the tank has to be drained, the unit disconnected and a tightness test carried out again on reassembly.

How much is a service-call fee for boiler repair?
Most Colombian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of $30.000–$80.000 COP, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Colombia's standard 19% VAT (IVA) applies to air-conditioning and heating repair services (Tax Statute, art. 468). However, small providers registered as "no responsables del IVA" (formerly the simplified regime) do not charge it, and many independent technicians invoice without VAT — so treat 19% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a boiler, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a boiler — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are department (departamento)-level estimates based on department-level income data (DANE Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares — GEIH, Departmental Monetary Poverty 2024), not fake city precision.
