How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Value brands — Kalley, Midea, Hisense and TCL — carry the cheapest, most widely stocked parts; Haceb, Challenger, LG, Samsung and York form the mainstream core of the Colombian market; premium makers — Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Bosch — use pricier components, almost always imported and sold through the manufacturer's official channel. Pick a tier for a class-typical estimate, or a specific Colombian brand to override it.

Ductwork & Vents duct insulation replacement: what usually causes it? Estimated
-
Renewing the duct's thermal insulation
Pro recommended$350.000–$1.500.000 COP
In the Colombian climate duct insulation is not a luxury: without it the duct sweats inside the ceiling and ends up dripping and staining. It is renewed when the panel comes away, gets wet or is eaten by rodents. The construction price generator for Colombia gives the exact reference: 25 mm rigid glass-wool panel duct costs $58,576.09 per m², of which $48,919.51 is material, against $36,580.44 per m² for uninsulated galvanised sheet duct. The range above corresponds to renewing between about five and twenty square metres. In the humid coastal areas this work is requested more often. It is not DIY: the work is at height and badly sealed insulation creates condensation instead of preventing it.
-
Localised renewal of the insulation on the section that is condensing
Pro recommended$200.000–$520.000 COP
The call is almost never 'the system needs re-insulating': it is 'the ceiling is staining at one spot'. That spot is usually a section where the insulation came away, got wet or was badly finished at a joint, and there the cold air in the duct meets the humid air of the ceiling void and condenses. Renewing two to five square metres of panel costs between $98,000 and $245,000 of material, at $48,919.51 per square metre according to the Colombian price generator, and the rest of the total is access, sealing and making good. Important: if the cause is not corrected — an air leak or an open finish — the stain comes back. A technician's work, at height and with continuous sealing.

How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most Colombian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of $30.000–$80.000 COP, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Colombia's standard 19% VAT (IVA) applies to air-conditioning and heating repair services (Tax Statute, art. 468). However, small providers registered as "no responsables del IVA" (formerly the simplified regime) do not charge it, and many independent technicians invoice without VAT — so treat 19% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a ductwork & vents, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a ductwork & vents — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are department (departamento)-level estimates based on department-level income data (DANE Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares — GEIH, Departmental Monetary Poverty 2024), not fake city precision.
