The vessel absorbs the expansion of the water as it heats; when its diaphragm splits, the pressure rises when the heating fires and then falls, and the safety valve starts to drip. In many Spanish homes it is solved by fitting an external vessel on the return, which is cheaper to maintain than the internal one. How much is a service-call fee for boiler repair?
Most Spanish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €36–€97, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Spain's standard 21% VAT (IVA) applies to heating and cooling repair services, and consumer prices are shown VAT-inclusive. A repair carried out in a dwelling can fall to the 10% reduced rate (Spanish VAT Act art. 91.Uno.2.10º) when three conditions hold at once: the customer is a private individual, the dwelling was completed more than two years ago, and the materials supplied by the firm are under 40% of the tax base. Labour-heavy jobs with little material often meet all three, so 21% is the standard rate but not always the effective rate on the invoice — treat it as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a boiler, or should you replace it?
