The contactor is the relay that feeds current to the compressor; when the contacts pit, the machine clicks and will not start, or it welds shut and never stops. It should be said plainly that in Spain this part belongs mostly to the older stock of on/off equipment and to plant in shops and offices: the domestic inverter units sold today have no contactor, and their equivalent fault is in the power module. How much is a service-call fee for central air conditioning repair?
Most Spanish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €36–€97, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Spain's standard 21% VAT (IVA) applies to heating and cooling repair services, and consumer prices are shown VAT-inclusive. A repair carried out in a dwelling can fall to the 10% reduced rate (Spanish VAT Act art. 91.Uno.2.10º) when three conditions hold at once: the customer is a private individual, the dwelling was completed more than two years ago, and the materials supplied by the firm are under 40% of the tax base. Labour-heavy jobs with little material often meet all three, so 21% is the standard rate but not always the effective rate on the invoice — treat it as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
