How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Value brands — Cointra, Ferroli, Fagor and Daitsu — carry the cheapest, most widely stocked parts; Baxi (Roca), Junkers Bosch, Saunier Duval and Ariston form the mainstream core of the Spanish boiler market, alongside LG, Samsung, Fujitsu (General) and Haier on the air-conditioning side; premium makers — Vaillant and Viessmann in boilers and air-to-water heat pumps, and Daikin, Panasonic, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric in air conditioning and heat pumps — use higher-grade components, often sold through the manufacturer's official channel (piezas de origen). Central Air Conditioning not cooling / blowing warm air: what usually causes it? Estimated
-
Refrigerant leak detection and recharge on a ducted system
Pro recommended€120–€240
Ducted air conditioning is the 'central' format that really does exist in Spain: an indoor unit hidden in the false ceiling of the hallway distributing through grilles. When cooling drops across the whole home at once, and not just in one room, the first thing checked is the refrigerant charge. The refrigerant pipe run is longer than on a wall split, so there are more joints at which to lose gas. Refrigerant circuit: an F-gas handling certificate is mandatory (RD 115/2017).
-
Cleaning the ducted indoor unit and the return filters
Pro recommended€120–€200
On ducted systems the filter is in the return grille and gets forgotten for years; when it blinds over, the machine loses airflow, cools badly and ends up icing the coil. A basic clean and sanitising of a ducted unit costs €120 to €200 in Spain, somewhat more than for a split because access is through the false-ceiling hatch. As the work is at height and on the unit, the maintenance company does it.

How much is a service-call fee for central air conditioning repair?
Most Spanish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €36–€97, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Spain's standard 21% VAT (IVA) applies to heating and cooling repair services, and consumer prices are shown VAT-inclusive. A repair carried out in a dwelling can fall to the 10% reduced rate (Spanish VAT Act art. 91.Uno.2.10º) when three conditions hold at once: the customer is a private individual, the dwelling was completed more than two years ago, and the materials supplied by the firm are under 40% of the tax base. Labour-heavy jobs with little material often meet all three, so 21% is the standard rate but not always the effective rate on the invoice — treat it as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a central air conditioning, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a central air conditioning — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are autonomous community (comunidad autónoma)-level estimates based on autonomous-community wage data (INE Annual Wage Structure Survey 2022), not fake city precision. Shopping in the U.S.?
