How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Value brands — Cointra, Ferroli, Fagor and Daitsu — carry the cheapest, most widely stocked parts; Baxi (Roca), Junkers Bosch, Saunier Duval and Ariston form the mainstream core of the Spanish boiler market, alongside LG, Samsung, Fujitsu (General) and Haier on the air-conditioning side; premium makers — Vaillant and Viessmann in boilers and air-to-water heat pumps, and Daikin, Panasonic, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric in air conditioning and heat pumps — use higher-grade components, often sold through the manufacturer's official channel (piezas de origen). Pick a tier for a class-typical estimate, or a specific Spanish brand to override it.

Gas Furnace won't turn on / no power: what usually causes it? Estimated
-
Replacing the electronic control board
Pro recommended€240–€650
If the appliance shows no signs of life and the power supply is sound, the immediate suspect is the board. The difference between €242 and €650 is whether the board is a compatible part or an original: Spanish shops sell boards from around €50 excluding VAT for older models and above €300 excluding VAT for manufacturer parts. It is a component fitted to any gas boiler or water heater too, and the price of the job is the same. The work is reserved to a registered gas installation company because it is the control electronics of a gas appliance.
-
Replacing the room thermostat and checking the control wiring
Pro recommended€60–€180
Before condemning the board it is worth ruling out the cheap causes: a thermostat with flat batteries, an open demand link or a broken control cable will leave the appliance silent. The spread is set by the thermostat chosen, from a €20 analogue unit up to a modulating one. Because this is fixed wiring connected to a gas appliance, the work belongs to a registered fitter.

How much is a service-call fee for gas furnace repair?
Most Spanish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €36–€97, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Spain's standard 21% VAT (IVA) applies to heating and cooling repair services, and consumer prices are shown VAT-inclusive. A repair carried out in a dwelling can fall to the 10% reduced rate (Spanish VAT Act art. 91.Uno.2.10º) when three conditions hold at once: the customer is a private individual, the dwelling was completed more than two years ago, and the materials supplied by the firm are under 40% of the tax base. Labour-heavy jobs with little material often meet all three, so 21% is the standard rate but not always the effective rate on the invoice — treat it as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a gas furnace, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a gas furnace — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
