How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Parts prices vary by brand, and they say nothing about how good a unit is. The reference level here is Mitsubishi Electric, whose control boards average €805.18. Pricier boards were observed for CTC, LG and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, cheaper ones for Panasonic, Viessmann, Fujitsu, Thermia, Bosch and Toshiba. For many brands — among them Daikin, NIBE, Samsung and Vaillant, and the Finnish makers Jäspi, Gebwell, Lämpöässä, Oilon, Vallox, Enervent and Ariterm — no publicly priced control board is available, so no price difference is claimed either way. In a Finnish house the domestic hot water is heated either by a coil in the boiler or by a separate electrically heated hot-water cylinder. When no hot water comes through, the cheapest explanation is a broken or wrongly set thermostat, and replacing it costs EUR 100–200 in parts and labour. The bottom of the range means a quick visit in the Helsinki region, the top a longer journey and an awkwardly sited cylinder. EUR 100 is a published consumer price for a short visit; in plumbing price lists that apply a two-hour minimum charge a separate visit costs at least EUR 153.12, so the bottom end presupposes a firm that does not charge a minimum, or a visit that was coming anyway. The thermostat sits behind the cylinder's permanent electrical connection, so replacing it is fixed electrical installation work requiring electrical contracting authorisation and may not be done yourself.

If the thermostat is sound, the immersion heater is checked next. Published prices for replacing the element range between EUR 150–250 and EUR 250–450 depending on whether the cylinder has to be drained and disconnected. A limescaled element is rarer in Finland than in many other countries, because the tap water here is generally soft; the more usual cause is electrical failure of the element or its age. The job includes draining the cylinder, replacing the element, refilling and bleeding, plus the electrical connection, which requires electrical contracting authorisation.

How much is a service-call fee for boiler repair?
Most Finnish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €30–€155, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (ALV, 25.5%) may or may not be included: many small heating and ventilation firms and sole traders fall under Finland's small-business VAT exemption threshold (turnover up to €20,000 a year, the limit in force since 1 January 2025) and charge no VAT — so treat 25.5% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on. No reduced rate covers heating-equipment repair. Finland's household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) does not reduce the invoice; it is claimed later in your own tax return.
Is it worth repairing a boiler, or should you replace it?
