How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Parts prices vary by brand, and they say nothing about how good a unit is. The reference level here is Mitsubishi Electric, whose control boards average €805.18. Pricier boards were observed for CTC, LG and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, cheaper ones for Panasonic, Viessmann, Fujitsu, Thermia, Bosch and Toshiba. For many brands — among them Daikin, NIBE, Samsung and Vaillant, and the Finnish makers Jäspi, Gebwell, Lämpöässä, Oilon, Vallox, Enervent and Ariterm — no publicly priced control board is available, so no price difference is claimed either way. In Finland a smart thermostat is nearly always bought to control direct electric heating or electric underfloor heating, because 36 per cent of detached houses are heated with electricity. The devices cost EUR 54.90–134.99 in retail, for example a DEVIreg Opti at EUR 54.90, an Ensto ECO16BT-J at EUR 69.90, a DEVIreg Touch at EUR 127.90 and a Schneider Wiser 16A at EUR 130.99. Swapping one into an old back box is quick, but it is fixed electrical installation work that may only be done by a contractor holding electrical competence, and the floor of the invoice is set by the minimum charge: the electrical price list bills a minimum of two hours, that is EUR 153.12. The top of the range means renewing the floor sensor during the same visit.

When the electric heating or the hydronic underfloor heating of a whole house is moved to smart control, 4–8 thermostats are needed and often a central unit as well. An Uponor Smatrix Wave Style T-169 costs EUR 134.99 each, so the devices alone come to several hundred euros. In Finland this is usually done because of the spot price of electricity: the controls shift the heating to cheap hours. The top of the range means a house where every room gets its own thermostat and the system is set up at commissioning. All connection work requires a contractor holding electrical competence.

How much is a service-call fee for thermostat & controls repair?
Most Finnish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €30–€155, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (ALV, 25.5%) may or may not be included: many small heating and ventilation firms and sole traders fall under Finland's small-business VAT exemption threshold (turnover up to €20,000 a year, the limit in force since 1 January 2025) and charge no VAT — so treat 25.5% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on. No reduced rate covers heating-equipment repair. Finland's household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) does not reduce the invoice; it is claimed later in your own tax return.
Is it worth repairing a thermostat & controls, or should you replace it?
