How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Parts prices vary by brand, and they say nothing about how good a unit is. The reference level here is Mitsubishi Electric, whose control boards average €805.18. Pricier boards were observed for CTC, LG and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, cheaper ones for Panasonic, Viessmann, Fujitsu, Thermia, Bosch and Toshiba. For many brands — among them Daikin, NIBE, Samsung and Vaillant, and the Finnish makers Jäspi, Gebwell, Lämpöässä, Oilon, Vallox, Enervent and Ariterm — no publicly priced control board is available, so no price difference is claimed either way. The price observations come from a Nordic euro parts storefront, not from a Finnish shop's price list. Pick a tier for a class-typical estimate, or a specific Finnish brand to override it.

Thermostat & Controls moving a thermostat to a different wall: what usually causes it? Estimated
-
Moving the thermostat within the same room
Pro recommended€155–€400
In Finland a thermostat is typically moved away from beside a door or off an external wall, because draughts and a cold wall distort the reading. A short move within the same room can often be done along the existing cable route, in which case the price is hourly work at EUR 76.56 an hour plus the service-vehicle charge; the minimum charge is two hours, that is EUR 153.12, and that sets the floor. The top means a new back box and making good the surface. The work includes a commissioning inspection, and it may only be done by a contractor holding electrical competence.
-
Moving the thermostat to a new position with a new cable run
Pro recommended€300–€800
A longer move requires a new cable run from the consumer unit or a junction box, which takes several hours and often means opening up surface finishes. The floor sensor, if there is one, is moved at the same time, or the device is changed for a model working from a room sensor at EUR 58.90–134.99. The top of the range means a concrete-built house where a chase has to be cut. In Finland the move is usually done in connection with redecoration, when the work is cheaper. All connection work requires a contractor holding electrical competence.

How much is a service-call fee for thermostat & controls repair?
Most Finnish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €30–€155, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (ALV, 25.5%) may or may not be included: many small heating and ventilation firms and sole traders fall under Finland's small-business VAT exemption threshold (turnover up to €20,000 a year, the limit in force since 1 January 2025) and charge no VAT — so treat 25.5% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on. No reduced rate covers heating-equipment repair. Finland's household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) does not reduce the invoice; it is claimed later in your own tax return.
Is it worth repairing a thermostat & controls, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a thermostat & controls — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are region (maakunta)-level estimates based on regional wage data (Statistics Finland, Palkkarakenne 2024), not fake city precision. Shopping in the U.S.? See the U.S. version (USD).
