The leading cause of loss of cooling on a French residential split, essentially on installations more than five years old whose flare joints have worked loose. The price spread comes from the leak-detection time, from the length of the refrigerant line and from the refrigerant used, R32 working out distinctly cheaper than the R410A still present in the installed base. The real €443 quote published by Clim-Reversible for detection, repair, recharge and call-out falls in the middle of the range, and Mon-Entretien-Climatisation prices leak detection separately at €80 to €150 and the recharge at €150 to €400 including VAT. No French source isolates the cost of the refrigerant and the brazing consumables: the parts share shown here is what is left of the total once the €50 to €100 call-out charge and the hours at the €60 to €70 rate documented by Installateur-Climatisation are taken out. The operation is reserved for a firm holding the refrigerant-handling certificate (attestation de capacité) for fluorinated refrigerants: a private individual may neither buy nor handle the refrigerant.

The price follows the number of indoor units and the accessibility of the outdoor unit, on a balcony or on a roof, within the band of €60 to €120 including VAT that Mon-Entretien-Climatisation publishes for a single-split and €100 to €200 including VAT for a multi-split. Rinsing the filters remains within the occupant's reach, but the pressure check is done on the refrigerant circuit and requires a certified firm. It is also the visit that satisfies the obligation of decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020: a thermodynamic system of 4 to 70 kW, reversible air conditioning included, must be serviced at least every two years. Billed at 10% VAT in a dwelling more than two years old.

How much is a service-call fee for ductless mini-split repair?
Most French companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €80–€170, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT on French home heating and cooling work is usually the 10% reduced rate for repair and maintenance in a dwelling completed more than two years ago, not the 20% standard rate; some energy-performance improvement work can fall to 5.5%, depending on the equipment fitted and the rules in force. Many independent installers and micro-entrepreneurs also fall under France's small-business VAT exemption (franchise en base de TVA, €37,500 threshold for services) and charge no VAT at all — their invoices carry the note "TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI". Prices displayed to consumers in France are quoted TTC (toutes taxes comprises — all taxes included).
Is it worth repairing a ductless mini-split, or should you replace it?
