Value-tier brands — Ariston, Chaffoteaux and Auer — carry some of the lowest parts factors; Saunier Duval, ELM Leblanc, De Dietrich, Chappée, Atlantic, Thermor and Riello form the mainstream core of the French heating market, with Saunier Duval as the price anchor for this list; premium makers — Vaillant, Frisquet and Viessmann — source mainly through the manufacturer's own network (pièces d'origine). Work that is systematically recommended when the network crosses an unheated loft, because a bare duct creates condensation that ends up dripping onto the ceiling. The material accounts for a large part of the spread: €4 to €10 per linear metre excluding VAT for a PVC or aluminium duct lined with 25 mm of glass wool, that is about €4.20 to €10.60 including VAT, and up to €30 a metre for top-of-the-range insulated duct. The length to be redone and moving the blown insulation account for the rest. The totals shown here are given including VAT: the fitting, adaptation and maintenance of a mechanical ventilation system come under the reduced VAT rate of 5.5% in a dwelling completed more than two years ago. How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most French companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €80–€170, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT on French home heating and cooling work is usually the 10% reduced rate for repair and maintenance in a dwelling completed more than two years ago, not the 20% standard rate; some energy-performance improvement work can fall to 5.5%, depending on the equipment fitted and the rules in force. Many independent installers and micro-entrepreneurs also fall under France's small-business VAT exemption (franchise en base de TVA, €37,500 threshold for services) and charge no VAT at all — their invoices carry the note "TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI".
