How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Value-tier brands — Ariston, Chaffoteaux and Auer — carry some of the lowest parts factors; Saunier Duval, ELM Leblanc, De Dietrich, Chappée, Atlantic, Thermor and Riello form the mainstream core of the French heating market, with Saunier Duval as the price anchor for this list; premium makers — Vaillant, Frisquet and Viessmann — source mainly through the manufacturer's own network (pièces d'origine). On the heat-pump and split-system side, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Toshiba sit in the premium tier, Panasonic, LG and Atlantic in the mainstream core, and Airwell at the value end. Ductwork & Vents leaky duct sealing / repair: what usually causes it? Estimated
-
Resealing an accessible ventilation duct (clips, sleeves, aluminium tape)
DIY possible€70–€180
Ducted warm-air heating barely exists in the French housing stock: a home's duct network is the mechanical ventilation one, and the amounts below therefore come from ventilation jobs, not from warm-air heating. The leak most often shows up at the joint between the flexible duct and the unit's spigot, in a services cupboard or at a loft hatch. The bottom of the range corresponds to a single joint remade in less than an hour, the top to several joints remade with a draught check. This floor is lower than a heating engineer's call-out charge, and that is normal: this is a ventilation job, not a boiler visit. No gas qualification and no refrigerant-handling certificate (attestation de capacité) comes into play on a ventilation network.

Replacing a section of holed duct in the loft and checking the airflow at the terminal
Pro recommended€180–€450
A common case in houses from the 1980s to the 2000s whose flexible PVC ducts have aged in unconverted lofts. The range follows the length replaced and the accessibility: a few metres under a sloping roof at the bottom, a complete run with the insulation lifted at the top. The professional finishes with an airflow measurement at the terminal, which a private individual cannot do without an anemometer or a measuring cone, hence the classification outside DIY. Here too the prices come from ventilation, for want of a ducted warm-air heating network in France.

How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most French companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €80–€170, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT on French home heating and cooling work is usually the 10% reduced rate for repair and maintenance in a dwelling completed more than two years ago, not the 20% standard rate; some energy-performance improvement work can fall to 5.5%, depending on the equipment fitted and the rules in force. Many independent installers and micro-entrepreneurs also fall under France's small-business VAT exemption (franchise en base de TVA, €37,500 threshold for services) and charge no VAT at all — their invoices carry the note "TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI". Prices displayed to consumers in France are quoted TTC (toutes taxes comprises — all taxes included).
Is it worth repairing a ductwork & vents, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a ductwork & vents — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are region-level estimates based on regional wage data (Insee, Tous salariés 2023 all-employees base), not fake city precision. Shopping in the U.S.? See the U.S. version (USD). In Canada?
