Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. On parts, the brand differences that actually show up in Italy are on the control boards. The lowest prices observed at Italian spares retailers belong to Immergas, Biasi and Savio, Unical, Baxi, Vaillant and Bosch (Junkers); Beretta and Riello, which share the same electronics, are the reference line for the table; above the reference sit Ariston, Ferroli, Hermann Saunier Duval, Sime and, highest of all, Chaffoteaux. On air conditioning the only published Italian price that could be verified is the LG board: for Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic, still the priciest brands for parts, the figure shown is their band median. The permanent pilot light no longer exists on the condensing boilers sold today, which have electronic ignition: it survives on older open-flue appliances and on the gas water heaters that are still very widespread, especially in the south and in rented homes. If the pilot goes out as soon as the knob is released, the part is almost always the thermocouple, which in itself costs a few euros (from 3 EUR, over 20 EUR as a kit): the bill is all labour and travel, with the first hour at 54-103 EUR and the travel at 25-60 EUR. The part is trivial but it sits on the gas circuit and its function is to cut the gas when the flame is missing, so replacing it is reserved to a firm qualified under DM 37/2008.

If the pilot lights but the boiler will not go to full flame, or if the pilot stays out even with a new thermocouple, the fault is in the gas valve with the pilot assembly built into it. The part costs 60-180 EUR (70-150 EUR in natural-gas versions, 80-190 EUR in LPG ones, which remain frequent outside the mains-gas areas) and replacement with the technician included 120-300 EUR. On very old appliances the original part may no longer exist and the technician proposes replacing the boiler: in that case the whole boiler is a 'bene significativo' (significant good) under the Ministerial Decree of 29 December 1999, and the share of its value that exceeds the service itself is invoiced at 22% instead of 10%. The gas valve is the appliance's safety component: only a firm qualified under DM 37/2008, with a combustion analysis after fitting.

How much is a service-call fee for boiler repair?
Most Italian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €35–€80, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Standard VAT (IVA) of 22% applies to standalone heating and air-conditioning repair services in Italy (DPR 633/1972); a reduced 10% rate can apply when the job counts as ordinary or extraordinary maintenance of a residential property (Law 488/1999 art. 7). Watch the 'beni significativi' cap: the decree of 29 December 1999 lists boilers and air-conditioning equipment by name, so when the boiler or the air conditioner is worth more than half the agreed price, the 10% rate only covers the difference between the total job value and the value of that item. Many small sole-trader firms also use the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario, €85,000 turnover threshold) and charge no VAT — so treat 22% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a boiler, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a boiler — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
