How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. On parts, the brand differences that actually show up in Italy are on the control boards. The lowest prices observed at Italian spares retailers belong to Immergas, Biasi and Savio, Unical, Baxi, Vaillant and Bosch (Junkers); Beretta and Riello, which share the same electronics, are the reference line for the table; above the reference sit Ariston, Ferroli, Hermann Saunier Duval, Sime and, highest of all, Chaffoteaux. On air conditioning the only published Italian price that could be verified is the LG board: for Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic, still the priciest brands for parts, the figure shown is their band median. The bedroom that stays hot while the living room freezes is the fault most often reported by Italian owners of ducted systems, and in most cases it is solved without touching the ducts at all: clogged filters, wrong fan speed, partly closed grilles. A full service of a ducted system is listed at 120 EUR up to 24,000 BTU and 150 EUR above that, while major servicing of the machine, indoor plus outdoor unit, is quoted at 130 EUR. It is the job to ask for first, before any work on the ducts. The work is on a unit connected to the refrigerant circuit: an F-Gas certified firm.

If setting up the machine is not enough, the problem is further upstream: runs that are too long, undersized sections, balancing dampers left as they came from the building site. The technician opens the inspection points, measures the flow at the grilles and adjusts the dampers; where there is no access, inspection hatches have to be cut, quoted at 60-105 EUR each. With labour at 30-60 EUR per hour and a ducted-system job sitting in the upper half of the 80-500 EUR band, the typical quote for a flat runs to a few hundred euros. How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most Italian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €35–€80, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Standard VAT (IVA) of 22% applies to standalone heating and air-conditioning repair services in Italy (DPR 633/1972); a reduced 10% rate can apply when the job counts as ordinary or extraordinary maintenance of a residential property (Law 488/1999 art. 7). Watch the 'beni significativi' cap: the decree of 29 December 1999 lists boilers and air-conditioning equipment by name, so when the boiler or the air conditioner is worth more than half the agreed price, the 10% rate only covers the difference between the total job value and the value of that item. Many small sole-trader firms also use the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario, €85,000 turnover threshold) and charge no VAT — so treat 22% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
