Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. On parts, the brand differences that actually show up in Italy are on the control boards. The lowest prices observed at Italian spares retailers belong to Immergas, Biasi and Savio, Unical, Baxi, Vaillant and Bosch (Junkers); Beretta and Riello, which share the same electronics, are the reference line for the table; above the reference sit Ariston, Ferroli, Hermann Saunier Duval, Sime and, highest of all, Chaffoteaux. On air conditioning the only published Italian price that could be verified is the LG board: for Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic, still the priciest brands for parts, the figure shown is their band median. On a heat pump, heating output collapses first of all for trivial reasons: an outdoor coil clogged with leaves and poplar fluff, dirty filters, an outdoor unit installed in a shaft where it recycles its own air. Diagnosis of an air-to-water heat pump is listed at 80-120 EUR and the annual routine service at 100-200 EUR, with a filter clean alone at 50-80 EUR if done by the technician. In northern homes this is the typical December call-out, when it drops below freezing outside and the COP falls as a matter of physics: half the time the system is healthy and simply needs cleaning and resetting. The energy-efficiency check is a legal obligation in any case, at an interval tied to the rated output, and the system logbook has to be kept up to date.

If the machine runs but never reaches temperature and the outdoor coil frosts abnormally, the refrigerant charge has fallen. Tracing the leak with an electronic detector costs 80-150 EUR on average and the recharge itself 100-180 EUR; service-centre price lists show 130-220 EUR for an R32/R410A recharge. The gas is paid for by weight: a list price of 170 EUR/kg for R32 and 190 EUR/kg for R410A, discounted to 120 and 135 EUR/kg respectively. Topping up without finding the leak is prohibited as well as pointless: any work on the refrigerant circuit must be carried out by technicians and firms entered in the national F-gas electronic register under DPR 146/2018, with penalties reaching 100,000 EUR.

How much is a service-call fee for heat pump repair?
Most Italian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €35–€80, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Standard VAT (IVA) of 22% applies to standalone heating and air-conditioning repair services in Italy (DPR 633/1972); a reduced 10% rate can apply when the job counts as ordinary or extraordinary maintenance of a residential property (Law 488/1999 art. 7). Watch the 'beni significativi' cap: the decree of 29 December 1999 lists boilers and air-conditioning equipment by name, so when the boiler or the air conditioner is worth more than half the agreed price, the 10% rate only covers the difference between the total job value and the value of that item. Many small sole-trader firms also use the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario, €85,000 turnover threshold) and charge no VAT — so treat 22% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a heat pump, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a heat pump — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
