The lowest prices observed at Italian spares retailers belong to Immergas, Biasi and Savio, Unical, Baxi, Vaillant and Bosch (Junkers); Beretta and Riello, which share the same electronics, are the reference line for the table; above the reference sit Ariston, Ferroli, Hermann Saunier Duval, Sime and, highest of all, Chaffoteaux. On air conditioning the only published Italian price that could be verified is the LG board: for Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic, still the priciest brands for parts, the figure shown is their band median. A heat pump that starts and stops after a few minutes generally does not have a fault but an imbalance: dirty coils, reduced airflow, or a machine oversized relative to the house's real demand, which is common in systems replaced in a hurry under the incentive schemes. The other classic cause of rapid on-off cycling is a fallen gas charge: the pressure switch trips, the machine stops and restarts continuously. Leak tracing (80-150 EUR) comes first and then the recharge (100-180 EUR, listed at 130-220 EUR), because topping up without repairing is prohibited by the F-gas regulation as well as pointless. A refrigerant check is recommended every 2-3 years anyway at 100-150 EUR, and those who do it almost always avoid reaching this point. How much is a service-call fee for heat pump repair?
Most Italian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of €35–€80, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Standard VAT (IVA) of 22% applies to standalone heating and air-conditioning repair services in Italy (DPR 633/1972); a reduced 10% rate can apply when the job counts as ordinary or extraordinary maintenance of a residential property (Law 488/1999 art. 7). Watch the 'beni significativi' cap: the decree of 29 December 1999 lists boilers and air-conditioning equipment by name, so when the boiler or the air conditioner is worth more than half the agreed price, the 10% rate only covers the difference between the total job value and the value of that item. Many small sole-trader firms also use the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario, €85,000 turnover threshold) and charge no VAT — so treat 22% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a heat pump, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a heat pump — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
