How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. Mirage, York, Whirlpool, Samsung, Mabe and Rheem form the mainstream core of the Mexican market — Mirage, the most widely installed minisplit brand, sets the parts-price reference the others are measured against. Below them sits the value tier — Comfort Star, Bair, Gree, Hisense, TCL, Midea and Goodman — with the cheapest, most widely stocked parts. Premium makers — Carrier, LG, Daikin, Trane, Lennox and Bosch — use pricier components, usually sold through the manufacturer's official channel. Pick a tier for a class-typical estimate, or a specific Mexican brand to override it.

Renewing the duct's insulation jacket with a vapour barrier
Pro recommended$1,500–$4,500 MXN
The duct's insulation peels off, gets wet or is eaten by rodents, and the duct then sweats and drips onto the ceiling. It is a typical fault on ducts running across a roof in the sun or through unventilated spaces. Mexican unit-price analyses publish sheet duct at $101.75 pesos per kilogram but expressly warn that this price does not include insulation, and no Mexican source publishes the jacket by the metre for homes, so the work is valued in full within the air-conditioning repair range in Mexico City, $1,500 to $4,500 pesos, rising with the metres of duct affected. Professional work: the vapour barrier has to be renewed as well, because if it is done badly the duct condenses again.

How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most Mexican companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of $500–$800 MXN, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Mexico's standard 16% VAT (IVA) applies to air-conditioning and heating repair services and their parts nationwide, and consumer prices are shown VAT-inclusive. In the Northern Border Free Zone and the southern border strip the effective IVA drops to 8% via a fiscal-stimulus decree (published in the DOF, in force through 31 December 2026) for businesses registered in those zones; in addition, many independent technicians and small taxpayers do not itemise VAT. So treat 16% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a ductwork & vents, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a ductwork & vents — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are state (estado)-level estimates based on per-capita labour income by state (CONEVAL, derived from INEGI's ENOE survey, Q2 2024), not fake city precision. Shopping in the U.S.?
