The mainstream baseline is Mitsubishi Electric: the air-to-air heat pump is the most common piece of mechanical heating equipment in a Norwegian home, and this is the brand Norwegian parts dealers stock most deeply. Toshiba, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hitachi and LG sit in the same parts-price class, while Daikin and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries sit higher. On the water-borne side — air-to-water and ground-source (bergvarme) — NIBE, CTC, Thermia, Bosch and IVT are the recurring names, with correspondingly higher parts prices; Flexit and Systemair (Villavent) supply balanced ventilation with Nilan above them, and Høiax covers hot-water cylinders. The air-to-air split system is the Norwegian heat pump: the Norwegian Heat Pump Association reports that almost 1.87 million of them have been sold since 1987 and that more than 60 per cent of detached houses have a heat pump. Cooling mode is used only a few weeks a year, and dust on the evaporator is noticed immediately then. Washing the filters takes a quarter of an hour and costs the owner nothing. A service visit on an air-to-air unit runs NOK 1,900–2,500 and rarely takes more than two hours; a deep clean of the indoor unit is priced at NOK 600–900 as an add-on, and a service with a deep clean together at NOK 1,900–2,900. The spread is driven by how dirty the heat exchanger is and by the number of indoor units in a multi-split system. If the refrigerant circuit is opened, an F-gas certificate is required.

If the indoor unit blows air that does not get cold, the pressure in the circuit is measured. Norwegian firms price fault-finding at NOK 990–1,500 and a pressure test at NOK 500–1,000. A split system has pipe joints at both the indoor and the outdoor unit, and that is where the leaks most often sit — particularly on systems that have been moved or refitted. The spread is driven by pipe length, by whether the system is a multi-split with several indoor units, and by whether a nitrogen pressure test over time is needed. A pump that is working should never need a top-up, so if the technician finds low pressure, the leak has to be sealed before it is charged. The work requires an F-gas certificate and cannot be done by the owner.

How much is a service-call fee for ductless mini-split repair?
Most Norwegian companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of kr 900–kr 2 500, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (MVA, 25%) may or may not be included: Norway has no reduced VAT rate for repairs, but small firms and sole traders with under NOK 50,000 in annual turnover are not VAT-registered and add no VAT — so treat 25% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a ductless mini-split, or should you replace it?
