The motor that drives the barrel fan in the indoor unit gives itself away with a squeal, a knocking noise or by starting late and running at one speed only. The labour for the swap averages PLN 374 in Polish price comparisons, from PLN 320 in smaller towns to PLN 480 in Warsaw, for work lasting an hour and a half to three hours, while the motor itself costs from PLN 250 for a pattern part for a popular model to over PLN 900 for a genuine one. The spread is therefore driven mainly by the brand of the appliance and by whether a pattern part is available. The work involves dismantling a unit hanging over the occupants' heads and disconnecting a permanently connected supply, so it is done by a service engineer, not by the owner.

Before the motor is replaced, it is worth checking the barrel fan: the drum furs up with a layer of dust and mould, loses its balance and forces the bearings to work under load, which gives exactly the same rumble as a damaged motor. Taking the fan out and washing it falls within the deep clean of the unit, priced by air-conditioning firms at PLN 300-500, against an average of PLN 351 and a band of PLN 290-450 for an ordinary service. The spread is driven by whether the whole unit has to come off the wall. How much is a service-call fee for ductless mini-split repair?
Most Polish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of 50–420 zł, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. Poland's standard 23% VAT applies to heating and air-conditioning service and to parts. Repair and maintenance work carried out inside a home covered by the social housing programme (flats up to 150 m², houses up to 300 m²) is charged at the reduced 8% rate under Article 41(12)(1) of the VAT Act — and on that route the price of the part being fitted does not change the rate. The condition that the net value of goods must not exceed 50% of the taxable base attaches only to Article 41(12)(2), the residual route for premises outside that programme. On top of that, many small trades use the VAT subjective exemption (Article 113 of the VAT Act, a PLN 240,000 annual turnover limit from 2026) and charge no VAT at all — so treat 23% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on.
Is it worth repairing a ductless mini-split, or should you replace it?
