How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. NIBE of Markaryd is the Swedish volume maker of ground-source, air-to-water and exhaust-air heat pumps, and its board prices set the 1.0 reference line every other brand is measured against. Panasonic and Samsung carry the lowest parts prices, followed by Thermia, Värmebaronen and Bosch. Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric sit highest, followed by CTC, Daikin and Vaillant, with Toshiba, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, IVT and LG moderately above the line. On the ventilation side Systemair, Flexit and Östberg sit at the reference level and Swegon above it. ComfortZone and Energy Save have no published Swedish board price and are left at the reference level; EVI Heat, Viessmann and Swegon have none either and are set to the premium band median. The factors below are parts prices relative to the reference line — not a quality, reliability or market-share ranking — and they do not track the price tier: premium-tier Panasonic sits lowest because a split-AC board is a physically smaller item than a hydronic main board. Fault-finding on an air-to-air heat pump that has stopped heating
Pro recommended3 100–5 000 kr
An air-to-air heat pump that stops heating is a winter matter and it shows up immediately on the electricity bill, because the house then falls back on direct electric heating. The technician reads the error code, measures the refrigerant pressures, checks the supply to the outdoor unit and assesses the compressor and the fan. Both of the firms that publish a price do so after the ROT deduction: SEK 2,490 and from SEK 3,495 including VAT respectively for standard fault-finding with a remedy. Since ROT takes 30 per cent of the labour and neither the call-out nor materials qualify, that corresponds to roughly SEK 3,100–3,300 and SEK 4,400–5,000 respectively before the deduction, and that is the level shown here. The homeowner should always first check that the remote control is in heating mode and that the coarse filter is not blocked — blocked filters can lower the efficiency by 20–25 per cent.

Cleaning an outdoor unit that has iced up and checking the defrost function
Pro recommended3 000–5 100 kr
An outdoor unit that has built up ice stops heating long before it raises an alarm, and in the Swedish coastal climate with long spells around zero it is the single most common cause of poor heat output in February. Steam-cleaning of the condenser coil and a check of the discharge temperature and air speed before and after is sold at SEK 3,025 without the ROT deduction and SEK 2,684 with, plus SEK 566 for the service vehicle, which does not qualify for ROT — that is about SEK 3,600 all in before the deduction. The upper part of the range applies when the outdoor unit has to be dismantled or is wall-mounted. The homeowner can shovel away snow and rinse the fins with lukewarm water, but must never chip the ice off.

How much is a service-call fee for ductless mini-split repair?
Most Swedish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of 450–900 kr, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (moms, 25%) may or may not be included: heating, cooling and ventilation work sits on the standard rate, and Sweden's reduced repair rate applies to an enumerated goods list (bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing and household linen) that does not reach heat pumps, boilers or ventilation units. Many small firms and sole traders fall under the small-business VAT exemption (turnover under SEK 120,000 per year, since 2025) and charge no VAT — so treat 25% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on. The ROT deduction is not a VAT cut but a tax reduction on the labour cost (30%, up to an annual cap per person), and it never applies to materials, the equipment itself or the call-out fee. Prices here are shown before ROT.
Is it worth repairing a ductless mini-split, or should you replace it?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair cost exceeds roughly half the price of a comparable new unit — or the appliance is past ~8 years for a ductless mini-split — replacement is often the better value. The calculator's localized totals give you the number to weigh against a new-unit quote.
Prices are county (län)-level estimates based on regional wage data (SCB Lönestrukturstatistik 2024), not fake city precision. Shopping in the U.S.? See the U.S. version (USD). In Canada?
