How do brand and quality tier change the repair cost?
Brand and tier adjust the parts portion only — never labour. NIBE of Markaryd is the Swedish volume maker of ground-source, air-to-water and exhaust-air heat pumps, and its board prices set the 1.0 reference line every other brand is measured against. Panasonic and Samsung carry the lowest parts prices, followed by Thermia, Värmebaronen and Bosch. Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric sit highest, followed by CTC, Daikin and Vaillant, with Toshiba, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, IVT and LG moderately above the line. On the ventilation side Systemair, Flexit and Östberg sit at the reference level and Swegon above it. ComfortZone and Energy Save have no published Swedish board price and are left at the reference level; EVI Heat, Viessmann and Swegon have none either and are set to the premium band median. The factors below are parts prices relative to the reference line — not a quality, reliability or market-share ranking — and they do not track the price tier: premium-tier Panasonic sits lowest because a split-AC board is a physically smaller item than a hydronic main board. A hiss or a whistle from the terminal in a single room is usually down to too high an air speed in that particular branch duct, and the direct remedy is a silencer on the branch just before the terminal. The silencer itself is a cheap part: a circular silencer in the usual branch size of 100–160 mm costs SEK 433–848 at Swedish ventilation suppliers, and flexible versions SEK 337–397. The work is one to two and a half hours at the ventilation trade's median hourly rate of SEK 687, plus the call-out, which gives SEK 1,700–4,200 for a separate visit. The price guide quotes SEK 1,500–5,000 each fitted — the lower figure applies when the silencer is put in while the technician is on site for other work anyway and no separate call-out has to be paid. In Swedish bedrooms this is a recurring complaint, because the requirement for outdoor-air flow has to be met at the same time as the room has to be quiet at night.

If the noise is spread across several rooms, the cause is the balance of the system rather than a single duct, and balancing is then the right remedy: SEK 6,500–16,500 with a mid price of SEK 11,500. An independent balancing firm quotes SEK 7,000–12,000 including VAT for an FTX house of 150–200 square metres and SEK 10,000–18,000 for a larger house, and per air terminal the figure quoted is SEK 500–1,500. Fault-finding on noise and draughts requires more measurement than plain balancing, since the technician has to measure in every room and try different terminal settings. A common discovery is that the unit has been running in boost mode round the clock since a filter change, which costs nothing to put right once it has been spotted. How much is a service-call fee for ductwork & vents repair?
Most Swedish companies charge a call-out / diagnostic fee of 450–900 kr, often credited toward the repair if you go ahead. It is separate from the repair totals above. VAT (moms, 25%) may or may not be included: heating, cooling and ventilation work sits on the standard rate, and Sweden's reduced repair rate applies to an enumerated goods list (bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing and household linen) that does not reach heat pumps, boilers or ventilation units. Many small firms and sole traders fall under the small-business VAT exemption (turnover under SEK 120,000 per year, since 2025) and charge no VAT — so treat 25% as a ceiling, not a guaranteed add-on. The ROT deduction is not a VAT cut but a tax reduction on the labour cost (30%, up to an annual cap per person), and it never applies to materials, the equipment itself or the call-out fee.
